The number of housebreakings cases grew during summer becoming one of the most frequent offences of the season. Police explains this situation by the fact that the owners go on vacations without taking the necessary house protection measures.
The best way of preventing burglaries is, according to the commissar of Chisinau municipality, Alexandru Mihai signing a contract with the State Guard Service. He says that the housebreaking rate of the apartments protected by this service is very low and in case the offenders take upon themselves the risk to break a house, these attempts are thwarted in several minutes.
The contract costs MDL 1-5 thousand and monthly the clients pay 15-20 lei.
Mihai mentioned that from the beginning of the year in Chisinau municipality there were registered 427 burglaries, slightly decreasing comparing with the last year. The rate of discovering these offences is of 94.2%. 27 burglary cases were not solved.
Among the actions undertaken by police for preventing this phenomenon is patrolling districts, as well as supervising the places were the stolen goods could be sold. Criminal Police, State Guard Service and carabineers are involved in these operations.
In the majority of cases it was proven that the offenders broke the houses with master keys. Statistics show that burglaries are committed during 12.00 and 18.00 when the owners are not at home. Burglars take precious goods – money, jewelry, video and audio devices, computers, clothes and sometime alimentary products. Lately, police says, construction materials from building sites are more frequently becoming the target of thieves.
Botanica district is the most “visited” by burglars. 86 cases were registered this year in this district. It is the most populated and has the biggest number of apartments.
The fewest burglaries were registered in Centru district – 40 cases.
The law-enforcement bodies arrested this year 8 criminal groups specialized in different types of felonies, especially housebreakings.
