There are no cases of public TV and radio stations’ privatization in the Republic of Moldova so the Audiovisual Coordinating Council does not know what procedure is to be applied in this case, states the chairman of the Council, Ion Mihailo. The vice-speaker of the Parliament, Iurie Rosca announced on the last week that the municipal radio station Antena C and Euro TV will be privatized after the adoption of the Audiovisual Code. Mihailo declared for Info-Prim Neo that he does not know what Iurie Rosca was speaking about while making such statements but the law in force stipulates that the broadcast frequencies can not be privatized because they belong to the state. He also mentioned that the broadcast license can not be handed over to anyone as well. Vasile State the director of the radio station Antena C informed that the present statute of this municipal enterprise is not stipulating anything about privatization. The only thing that can be said for sure at the moment is the fact that for being privatized the founder – the municipal Council of Chisinau will have to adopt decisions regarding the liquidation of the stations as public institutions, and this implies the dismissal of the present employees, mentioned State. Sources from the Department of Privatization communicated for the Agency that the founder of those two institutions can organize an auction sale or to include the 2 institutions in the privatization plans subsequently which are to be approved by the Parliament. The vice-speaker Iurie Rosca, also leader of PPCD, declared that those two institutions will privatized because the draft of the Audiovisual Code elaborated by a committee headed by him does not stipulate the existence of other public broadcasters than Teleradio-Moldova Company. He also stated that the opinion of the Chisinau’s inhabitants will not be consulted upon this problem grounding on the right of the legislators to take decisions during their seat. Rosca’s opinion is refuted by politicians, European and national mass-media organizations and journalists.
