„The fact that many wines produced in Moldova are faked, containing flavors, dyes and lots of water, is not a secret anymore, as the fact that in Moldova counterfeit vodka is produced”, the chairman of Public Association “Moldova mea”, Fiodor Ghelici, stated at the Thursday press conference. Ghelici said that he found out from winners about the performing technologies allowing, by using flavors and dyes, the production of wines of all trademarks, at a very cheap price, without mentioning on the label that it is a “wine-like beverage” and not a genuine one. This situation, he mentioned, is practiced, for many years, not only by producers, but also by the whole population producing wine “for them and another for selling”. At the same time, Ghelici noted that the country’s leadership does not drink wine from markets, but directly from the factory, where the barrels have different contents. About the certificates on the fake bottles, he explained that „everything is done for money”. At the same time, Ghelici shares the opinion that, in case when the Russian sanitary doctor speaks about the massive faking of wines, he should mention the factories practicing this procedure, when 70% of wine factories from Moldova are owned by Russians. Ghelici also considers that Russian businessmen should recognize the fact that they were ordered cheap wines, making discount on quality, on the principle that, „ the Russian consumer drinks anything” and „the business law is to follow profit and not ethics”. In a way, Ghelici shares the opinion that „Russians did a good thing for us while stopping the imports, as winners will be motivated to produce quality wines”. „Not a single Moldovan businessman called for a press conference to declare that he makes quality wine, as in fact, they „are guilty”, he underscored. „Wine means for Moldova the same as oil and gas for Russia. That is why the country’s leadership should establish a drastic control over the wine production and undertake measures for re-improving the wine branch of Moldova”, Ghelici concluded.
