The Western Balkans and the Republic of Moldova should join the European Union as swiftly as possible for political reasons, MEP Norica Nicolai was quoted by IPN as saying in the talk show “Fabrika” on Publika TV channel. According to her, the EU needs a broader welfare area because it is attacked by other commercial powers.
“In such conditions, I hope we will have a Parliament that will know to do politics,” stated the MEP, referring to the May 26 European Parliament elections.
Norica Nicolai noted the Republic of Moldova is one of the EU’s problems. “We understand that the European Union, including Romania, needs the Eastern Partnership to be consolidated and needs at least an EaP member state and only Moldova can be this country,” she stated, adding it is in the EU’s interest to resume the dialogue with Chisinau as soon as possible.
The European official said it is now crucial for the Republic of Moldova to have a Government. “If the political class in Chisinau does not understand that this implies cooperation with those whom they criticized as well, it means they are not political parties responsible for the future of this country and are only groups that serve particular more or less honest interests,” stated Norica Nicolai.
