There are two distinct inland ports on the Danube in the Moldovan locality of Giurgiulești: the Giurgiulești International Freeport owned by European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), and another facility which is owned by the state, clarified the Government’s spokesperson Daniel Vodă.
“There are currently no talks whatsoever to sell the state-owned port”, Vodă said in response to misleading reports circulating about a potential deal involving assets in Giurgiulești.
Instead, it is the EBRD which is in talks with a number of potential investors, including from Romania, Turkey, the Netherlands and Denmark.
Vodă added that infrastructure partnership projects do feature on the agenda between Moldovan Prime Minister Dorin Recean and his Romanian counterpart Marcel Ciolacu.
“The Government will not sell the Giurgiulești State Port”, Vodă stressed.
