The foreign-capital enterprise “Kilogrin”, appointed by the Government in May 2006 as the general contractor for the Central Stadium’s construction in Chisinau, gave up financing this project. Premier Vasile Tarlev stated at Wednesday’s Government session that in this case the central and local public bodies have undertaken all the necessary measures in order to start the construction works, but the investor “who promised a lot, wasn’t able to make the promised investments”. Tarlev said he was sorry for the delay of this project’s implementation, stating that the Sports Agency came up with the initiative to cease all the relations with this investor. Due to that, the Government will negotiate directly with new possible investors to start as soon as possible the construction under the same terms. The investor will have the right to property over the building to be erected, retrieving afterwards its money by selling out the other buildings to be erected in this area. The construction works for the Olympic-type Central Stadium in Chisinau were supposed to start back in early 2006. The researches and topography works have been done meanwhile, with the zone city plan being worked out as well. After the Institute of Design “Chisinau-Proiect” drafted the project documentation, the demolition works started on the Tudor Vladimirescu – Calea Orheiului streets. Former ad-interim mayor Vasile Ursu said that the Municipality would have to go to over 10 mln lei expenses in this respect, including compensating the individuals and legal entities that were renting houses or land properties in the area. Appointed by the Government in May last year to build the Central Stadium, “Kilogrin” was forecasting a minimum capacity of 30.000 places for the future venue, with the construction works to last for 3 years. The local authorities were initially supporting the total demolition of the Circus area, especially the one-storied houses, in order to erect on this territory a model district.
