No cases of flu caused by the swine flu H1N1 virus have been reported in Moldova so far. The authorities assure that measures have been taken to prevent the spread of the disease and to provide the necessary medical assistance to persons suspected of having swine flu, Info-Prim Neo reports.
According to the Government’s press service, the issue was discussed Monday at the meeting of the National Extraordinary Antiepidemic Commission chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Victor Stepaniuc.
Deputy Minister of Health Oleg Lozan said that no restrictions on the import of meat and live animals from the affected areas have been placed so far. Informative materials have been prepared for travelers and risk groups. There were stored up anti-flu drugs.
The World Health Organization (WHO) representative to Moldova Pavel Ursu said that it is not yet known how the virus develops. Therefore, the authorities should be on the alert, inform the population and monitor the situation as they already do. Pavel Ursu also said that the WHO will provide support to Moldova to purchase the necessary doses of medications and diagnostic tests for detecting and treating the disease quickly and efficiently.
The commission’s chairman Victor Stepaniuc demanded that the passenger flows, especially to the affected countries, be supervised in order to keep the situation under control. He also said that the information about the development of the situation should be provided every three days. The commission will come together for a new meeting in a week.
