Nine Moldovan military athletes medal at World Taekwondo ITF Championship

The representatives of the Army Central Sports Club, who formed part of the national squad of Moldova, won 16 medals at the World Taekwondo ITF Championship in Rome. Nine Moldovan military athletes won five golden medals, three silvers and eight bronzes, IPN reports.

The Club’s athletes achieved such results for the first time. In the 76 kg class, international sports master Nicolae Capatina won two golds and a silver in individual fighting, team sparring and special technique (breaking of objects through jumps).

The juniors team of Moldova at the championship, which consisted of the Army Central Sports Club members Ruxandra Trofin, Mihaela Golban, and Diana Midari, ranked first in breaking and third in special technique, winning two golds, four bronzes and a silver medal.

In the individual fighting event, the 65 kg class, Cristi Dumbrovschi ranked second in team breaking and third in team special technique, winning a silver and two bronzes.

The World Taekwondo ITF Championship in Italy involved 536 athletes from 33 countries. Moldova was represented by 20 athletes.
