Nine of the 35 actions included in the action plan for implementing the recommendations formulated by the European Union haven’t been carried out by the end of 2022, as it was projected. But the National Commission for European Integration, which assessed the action implementation level, said the nine actions are at the final stage. In the Commission’s meeting, President Maia Sandu asked the responsible institutions to hasten the fulfillment of the commitments, IPN reports.
Among the implemented actions are the adoption by Parliament of the new Electoral Code that took effect on January 1 and the approval by the Government of the regulations concerning small value procurement.
Among the actions that are at the final implementation stage are the extraordinary assessment of candidates for the posts of member of the Superior Council of Magistracy and the Superior Council of Prosecutors (pre-vetting) and the specification of the duties of the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office and the National Anticorruption Center, as regards the fighting of grand corruption.
There will be adopted a package of normative documents aimed at eliminating the influence of oligarchs from the political, economic and media spheres, which is one of the recommendations formulated by the European Commission in June 2022.
“I requested the heads of the responsible institutions to step up efforts and to hasten the implementation of recommendations. We also agreed to make additional efforts to offset the lack of sufficient progress over the last six-seven years in the harmonization of the legislation. This means a greater effort on the part of all the institutions during the next four-five months, but this is a very important effort,” stated Maia Sandu.
The official also said that the European integration is the country project that, when it is implemented, will ensure peace, the country’s economic modernization and higher living standards for the people.
The Commission also agreed to work out a plan for adjusting the national legislation to the Community acquis.
