The opening of an Embassy of the Netherlands in Chisinau will help to strengthen ties and intensify the political dialogue between our countries, stated Foreign Minister Nicu Popescu in welcoming Fred Duijn, the first resident ambassador of Netherlands to Moldova.

Nicu Popescu noted that the inauguration of an embassy also represents a strong message of support for the security of Moldova and the regional one. “The fact that embassies come instead of leaving is a good thing for us. I expressed my confidence that this new embassy will play an important role in promoting economic, commercial and cultural cooperation between the Republic of Moldova and the Netherlands”, said the minister.

Popescu reaffirmed Moldova’s firm commitment to European values. “I expressed my confidence that through close cooperation with the Netherlands and the other EU member states we will be able to advance on the path of joining the EU”, said the Moldovan official.

Wopke Hoekstra, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, will visit Moldova during April 19 and 20.

Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Moldova and the Kingdom of the Netherlands were established on July 10, 1992. To date, bilateral 21 treaties and agreements have been concluded.
