The Republic of Moldova insists on a peaceful, diplomatic solution to the Transnistrian conflict, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Nicu Popescu stated in the international conference “Challenges to European Security” that was hosted by Charles University in Prague and was staged by the network of European universities Europaeum. During the official visit to Prague, Nicu Popescu had a discussion with his Czech counterpart Jan Lipavský whom he thanked for the support provided by the Czech authorities in the process of modernizing and democratizing the Republic of Moldova.

“I informed my interlocutor that in the current unprecedented crisis that hit Europe, we are making sustained efforts to help the citizens in the short and medium terms. We will work together with the Czech authorities to exchange experience for organizing the second Summit of the European Political Community,” stated Nicu Popescu.

Given that the Czech Republic holds the Presidency of the Council of the EU, Nicu Popescu also had discussions with Minister for European Affairs Mikuláš Bek. The Czech official said that his country supports Moldova’s European course and encourages the implementation of the action plan so as to do the reforms suggested by the European Commission.

“European modernization means concrete things, such as energy efficiency, continuation of community projects, with the wastewater treatment station in Briceni being a good example in this regard, and decided to together agree the new priorities of the Czech Assistance Program for the immediate period,” stated Nicu Popescu.

As an invitee to the conference, the Moldovan official explained the impact of the war in Ukraine on the Republic of Moldova, underlining the necessity of strengthening the country’s defense capabilities. In connection with the security crisis in the region, Nicu Popescu noted that Chisinau banks on the identification of a peaceful, diplomatic solution to the Transnistrian conflict in the existing formats.
