The new minister of foreign affairs and European integration in the Sandu Government Nicu Popescu said he is a not a political minister and will work as a minister to represent the entire state. In a program on TV8 channel, he assured the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the new Government promote Moldova’s European integration, IPN reports.

“I today had a meeting with President Igor Dodon. We discussed these things and the President was very explicit and assured me that he and the Party of Socialists do not want any of the international agreements signed by the Republic of Moldova, including the Association Agreement with the EU, to be reviewed,” stated Nicu Popescu.

He noted he receives dozens of messages from people from inside the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, who say they are waiting for the moment when they could resume work. “Our diplomats should go on delegations and should sign and negotiate agreements. No one accepts them now as the Government that does not concede the state institutions is not recognized,” stated the minister.

According to him, as long as the Ministry’s work is blocked, the situation in the country worsens and the diplomatic work can be resumed only in September, when the Western functionaries return from vacation. This influences the unblocking of the EU macro-financial assistance. “If we do not move on during the next two weeks, the summer and three months of diplomatic work will be lost,” noted Nicu Popescu, adding the macro-financial assistance will not be disbursed to an unrecognized Government.
