The holding of the European Political Community Summit in Moldova is a unique occasion and the most important foreign policy event since the declaring of Independence, Minister of Foreign Affairs Nicu Popescu stated in a conference entitled “Main subjects and expectations of the European Political Community Summit”, IPN reports.
“It is a moment when we will have almost 50 heads of state in Chisinau, 50 delegations in total. Many will come to the Republic of Moldova for the first time and our objective in the discussions with them is to strengthen the Republic of Moldova’s role in the family of European states,” said Nicu Popescu.
The minister noted that the diplomatic support and the anchoring in the European family are very important for the Republic of Moldova. “Besides, it is important to have the opportunity to agree social, energy aspects of interconnectivity with the European space. For us, this is a forum for exchanges, for building additional bridges,” stated the official.
Nicu Popescu said that during the past 30 years, including in the interaction with foreign partners, the Republic of Moldova went through a number of difficult phases, of isolation, of incapacity to persuade and to attract friends, assistance and support and this summit enables the country to fix a number of things in the interaction with the foreign partners.
“Evidently, these relations are and will remain a foundation stone for our European course, for our path towards the European Union as over half of the members of the EPC are also member states of the European Union. Over the next few years, absolutely each step, each stage of our path of accession to the EU should be supported, voted by absolutely all the EU member states. In this regard, this summit is an opportunity, an investment for our European future,” stated Nicu Popescu.
The official reiterated that the European Political Community was founded in the tragic context of the Russian aggression against Ukraine, which is the greatest war on the European continent since World War II. This war motivated the free and democratic states from Europe to combine forces and make effort, including diplomatic, in this format so as to restore peace in Europe. “Owing to this tragic context, the summit will take place in the Republic of Moldova and is an investment and a signal of support for us, for our country, for our stability and peace, for our future prosperity,” said the Deputy Prime Minister.
