Nicolai Grigorișin emerged victorious in the rerun snap mayoral elections held in the municipality of Bălți on December 19, IPN reports.
According to data of the Central Election Commission (CEC), independent candidate Nicolai Grigorișin won the snap mayoral runoff in the municipality of Bălți with 84.77% of the ballot (7,148 votes). His challenger Nicolae Chirilciuc, of Moldova’s Patriots Party, garnered 15.23% of the vote (1,248 votes), shows a press release of the CEC.
The voter turnout was 9.98% (10,209 people). In accordance with the Electoral Code, the candidate who gains the largest number of votes is considered elected regardless of the voter turnout in the runoff.
Șor Party’s candidate Marina Tauber, who was excluded from the competition for the mayoralty of Bălți, mounted protests in the town on election day, calling on the voters to boycott the runoff.
