One year after his investiture, President Nicolae Timofti said that it was an interesting year and he is glad that he was able to contribute to the implementation of a very ambitious program for Moldova – the one concerning the European integration. He considers that the fall of the Government is the most serious failure this year, IPN reports.

”For me personally, it was an interesting year because I changed my occupation. I found out things that I didn’t know, but there were also very interesting things. The needs of the people and Moldova are better seen from this level. The most important thing for me was that I contributed to the implementation of the very ambitious European integration program,” Nicolae Timofti said in the program “Moldova live” on the public TV channel Moldova 1.

The head of state mentioned among the accomplishments during this year first of all the cooperation with the administration of the European Union and the visits that enabled Moldova to make itself heard and to prove that it is a serious and reliable partner. According to him, the fact that they were unable to maintain the Government is the most serious failure in the period.

Nicolae Timofti stated that all the political players realize the situation in Moldova and will take the best decision for Moldova so as to overcome the political crisis. The head of state voiced hope that the representatives of the former ruling alliance will take into account the people’s interests and the European vector and will do everything possible to restore order. “We do not need early elections,” said the President.

Nicolae Timofti was elected as head of state on March 16, 2012 by the votes of 62 MPs: 58 lawmakers of the ruling alliance, unaffiliated MP Mihai Godea, and three Socialist lawmakers. The Communists challenged the elections, saying they were unconstitutional.
