Moldova and Romania will build new bridges over the Prut River. There will be implemented three projects to construct high voltage power lines as well as the Iasi-Ungheni gas pipeline. The issues were discussed by President Nicolae Timofti with his Romanian counterpart Traian Basescu in a meeting in Chisinau, IPN reports.
In a news conference, the Moldovan head of state said the special relationship between the two countries only benefits the people living on the two banks of the Prut. A number of joint projects will start to be implemented this year, including to build new bridges over the Prut near Ungheni town, the Iasi-Ungheni gas pipeline, which will start to be constructed in August, and the high voltage power lines Balti-Suceva, Ungheni-Iasi-Straseni, and Gotesti-Falciu.
Nicolae Timofti and Traian Basescu also agreed to stimulate the commercial relations and discussed the retransmission of the Romanian public TV channel TVR1 in Moldova.
The Romanian head of state said that Romania will contribute €9-12 million to building the Iasi-Ungheni gas pipeline. He underlined that the initiated energy projects will enable Moldova to have alternative sources of energy and to become less dependent on one source.
