The arrest of judges over involvement in the laundering of about US$20 billion from Russia is a political show staged before the presidential elections and these judges were transformed into scapegoats, analyst Nicolae Chirtoaca stated in the program “Place for dialogue” on the public station “Radio Moldova”, IPN reports.
“The judges were like pawns in this scheme. There were a number of institutions that knew about these transactions, including the National Bank of Moldova, the Prosecutor General’s Office, the National Anticorruption Center, the Government and the Security and Intelligence Service, but nobody intervened,” said the analyst.
Nicolae Chirtoaca considers that only the judges will be punished in this case of money laundering. “All these strategic moves are similar to the theft of the US$1 billion. In this big show, the judges have to play the role of victims who assume responsibility, as it happened to Vlad Filat, as if he is the only one to blame for the theft of the US$1 billion,” he stated.
