The newly launched Association of Moldovan Internationalist Veterans-Participants in the Afghanistan War undertakes to deal with the problems of all war veterans in the Republic of Moldova, without exception, and to promote their interests before the public authorities. The commitment was made by the entity’s chairman Constantin Boeștean at a news conference hosted by IPN, IPN reports.
"War veterans from ATU Gagauzia and the Transnistrian region are also part of the association because the challenges faced by war veterans are the same throughout the constitutional territory of the Republic of Moldova. For decades, the organizations have been divided, each according to its own purpose. We intend to cooperate with everyone," said Constantin Boeștean.
The association’s Declaration also notes that its members aim to promote the pro-European values and national interests of the Republic of Moldova, democracy and the rule of law.
"We want to work openly. We don't do politics. We need to be respected, to be given what we deserve," said the head of the Leova district branch Valeriu Veștiman.
The sources also noted that this is the first time that an association of internationalist war veterans is created in the Republic of Moldova, with openness to cooperate with other organizations from all over the world, with some of which cooperation agreements have already been concluded.
"We started to cooperate with some of the international organizations of veterans, of Romania, of the Czech Republic, and we are glad that those from the Transnistrian region helped us to create this association," said the entity’s secretary Petru Laiu.
The Association of Moldovan Internationalist Veterans-Participants in the Afghanistan War was constituted voluntarily by a number of district associations of the Republic of Moldova and has the status of a Republican Association.
