A new regional support Center will be opened in Soroca on November 1. It was created with the financial support offered by the US Government, by means of the US Agency for International Development (USAID) and aims at providing services for supporting girls and women aged 16-25.
The creation of this Center took place within the framework of the project “The Initiative to combat trafficking in human beings/new perspectives for women”, an activity implemented in 2004 by Winrock International, in partnership with NGOs from Moldova.
The project “New Perspectives for Women” proposes a complex network of assistance services, integrated programmes for developing economic possibilities and of preventing crisis situations, programmes implemented through the agency of the 5 regional support Centers created in Moldova.
Being aimed at reducing the trafficking in human beings, by raising public awareness and tackling the economic causes of the trafficking in young women from rural areas, the project makes efforts to develop employment capacities and to create their own business, offering knowledge, consultations and support to the group put at risk of trafficking.
The regional support Center in Soroca is managed by the Center for young people “Dacia” and selected in summer 2006. “Dacia” Center was created in 2005 to improve the information access of young people from the north-east zone of the country by providing information services and instruction on how to prevent the risks that can affect health, career and development of young people. The Center, which nestles the regional support Center, in partnership with the team of the Rehabilitation Center for young people exposed to risks, created by the “Better Opportunities for Young and Women” project funded by USAID, offers a wide range of services intended for the beneficiaries in the north zone of the country.
