The Government approved a bill on the supervision of the market, which stipulates clear rules for performing inspections to determine the compliance of nonfood products with the technical requirements, IPN reports.

The market supervision activity will be coordinated by a council on consumer protection and market supervision consisting of representatives of the central public authorities, the market supervision authorities, the Customs Service, public consumer associations and professional sector associations.

Inspections will be carried out to assess the risks and the proportionality of the penalties to the caused damage. Greater attention will be paid to the informing of economic entities about the responsibility they bear and of consumers about their rights.

The market supervision authorities will be able to order destroying the dangerous products, temporarily suspending or banning the placement of products on the market and withdrawing or recalling faulty products.

The law, which will take effect 12 months after it is published in the Official Gazette, applies to products for which there are technical regulations, including toys, low tension equipment, scales, refrigerating equipment, construction materials, tele- and radio-communications, etc.
