The new governor of the National Bank of Moldova (NBM) Anca-Dana Dragu was introduced to the colleagues by Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu on the morning of December 26. The latter noted that both the legislature and Moldova’s citizens have big expectations. “We want to have a resilient, strong bank that contributes to and takes part in the economic and financial development of the country,” said the Speaker.
Igor Grosu noted that 2024 is an important year for Moldova now that the EU accession negotiations are to be opened and, like other strategic institutions, the National Bank plays a significant role in this process.
On December 22, Anca-Dana Dragu was appointed governor of the National Bank of Moldova, head of the Supervisory Board and of the Executive Board, for a seven-year term. A draft decision to this effect was adopted by Parliament by the votes of 58 PAS MPs.
Anca-Dana Dragu replaced Octavian Armașu, who was dismissed from office on the evening of December 21 by the votes of 81 MPs.
