The Cabinet approved the national program to prevent and control diabetes for 2017-2021, IPN reports.
The authorities intend to support the measures to prevent and combat diabetes by early diagnosis and by stopping progression of chronic complications through appropriate treatment and rehabilitation methods. The medical assistance provided to patients will be improved. The medical centers will be outfitted with modern equipment, while the medical personnel will systematically attend professional training courses.
The authorities aim to reduce the number of persons with a high risk of developing diabetes by 10% and cardiovascular disease mortality among diabetics by 20%.
There will be created an electronic register of patients with diabetes so as to more efficiently monitor these.
The costs associated with the implementation of the national program to prevent and control diabetes for 2017-2021 will be covered with state budget funds and foreign financing.
In Moldova, diabetes is the fourth leading cause of death. The number of persons suffering from this disease is on the rise.
