The head of the Foreign Ministry’s Department for Political Cooperation with the EU, Daniela Cujba, 26, was appointed today by the Cabinet to the office of head of the Mission of Moldova to the European Communities, with the rank of ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary. This office was previously held by Eugen Carpov, who was recalled at the beginning of March by President Vladimir Voronin. Back then, media informed that “the mandate of Carpov was beforehand suspended as a result of certain infringements committed by him”. Media also informed that the ambassador could be instituted penal proceedings against and dismissed from the Moldovan diplomatic service. The next day, when Carpov was still in Brussels, he said that the fact he was recalled “after a period of over 5 years of activity as ambassador – initially in Poland and then in the European Communities – can not be considered as anticipated and that “from the legal point of view, this situation is in agreement with the principle of rotation of the diplomatic personnel”. At the same time, the Government designed two ambassadors with concurrent accreditation in other countries. The head of the Mission to Romania, Lidia Gutu will concurrently serve as Ambassador of Moldova to Montenegro, with residence in Bucharest, and the Ambassador to the People’s Republic of China, Iacob Timciuc, will concurrently hold the office of ambassador to North Korea, with residence in Beijing. The draft decrees of the Government will be sent to President Voronin for approval.
