The higher electricity charges will start to be applied after the National Agency for Energy Regulation’s relevant decision is published in the Official Gamete, not retroactively as it was rumored, one of the Agency’s directors Violina Șpac explained.

“Household end users will pay a charge without VAT, while the non-household ones will pay a VAT rate of 20%. This is a rule for the electric power sector,” Violina Șpac told a news conference.

This is the third adjustment of electricity charges this year. The NAER director said the decision was taken during a shorter period of time as the Commission for Exceptional Situations obliged the Agency to issue a decision within five days of the submission of an application by suppliers.

Household customers in the center and south of the country that are serviced by Premier Energy SRL will pay 3.15 lei/kWh, by 0.51 lei or 21.6% more than now (VAT excluded). For household customers in northern Moldova that are serviced by Furnizarea Energiei Electrice Nord SA, the new electricity charge will be 3.21 lei/kWh, up 0.35 lei.

The charges approved by the National Agency for Energy Regulation are slightly lower than those requested by the suppliers.
