Vice-president of the Liberal Party Dorin Chirtoaca has officially been installed in the office of Chisinau Mayor General on Monday, June 25.
The inauguration started with the sitting of the Chisinau District Election Council (CDEC) which announced the Centru District Court’s decision to validate Chirtoaca’s mandate. After that, the CDEC president handed him the mayor’s license.
A number of party leaders from opposition, especially those who supported him in the runoff, attended the ceremony. Among them were Serafim Urecheanu, the leader of “Moldova Noastra” Alliance and former mayor of the capital city, who handed over to Chirtoaca the medallion of Chisinau Mayor. The ceremony was also attended by the leader of the Democratic Party, Dumitru Diacov, of the Christian-Democrat People’s Party, Iurie Rosca, the president of the Social Democratic Party, Eduard Musuc, and others. Chirtoaca received congratulations from his fellow party members, from relatives and friends, and from Chisinau councilmen, except for the communists, who missed the event.
Dorin Chirtoaca thanked all those who helped him to win, first mentioning his parents, fellow party members, the parties that supported him, as well as the voters. At the same time, he gave bouquets to the former political prisoners, Andrei Ivantoc and Tudor Petrov-Popa.
Addressing the party leaders who backed him in elections, Chirtoaca said he would further cooperate with them, respecting the rule of law. “We need collegiality and cooperation to capitalise the change we brought on June 3 and 17”, the new mayor added.
The inauguration ended with a blessing ceremony in the premises of the City Hall. After that, the new mayor laid flowers to the monument of Stefan cel Mare.
