Some believe the provision of the neutral-design license plates for motor vehicles from the Transnistrian region is a success achieved by the authorities in the negotiations with the administration in Tiraspol, while others consider this is a concession made by Chișinău. The opinions were states in the talk show “Moldova live” on the public TV channel Moldova 1, IPN reports.

Public Services Agency director Gheorghe Crețu said the private individuals at the first stage will obtain neutral-design license plates for vehicles based on applications and a set of documents. “The vehicle is examined, is struck off the register of the competent bodies of the Transnistrian region and is registered by the bodies of our Agency,” he stated.

Viorel Cernăuțan, of the Reintegration Policy Bureau, noted the number of those who want to get neutral-design license plates shows the people want to travel in Europe without impediments. “We are convinced that this mechanism will be approved of by society and by the central authorities. We are confident that the mechanism at the first phase will be successful and will be a correct one and we cannot class it as a concession. In a negotiation process, we cannot say that the negotiation is a concession,” he stated, adding these negotiations are a success both for the authorities and for the citizens.

Political analyst Anatol Țăranu said the neutral-design license plates represent a compromise and a compromise always consists of concessions. “The authorities of the Republic of Moldova in a way had to make a concession to first of all satisfy the interests of the citizens, but had to concede, including to the secessionist Transnistrian administration,” he stated.

Political analyst Corneliu Ciurea noted this gesture by which the access of the citizens from the Transnistrian region to Europe is facilitated is favorable to Chișinău from all viewpoints as these citizens, who probably have other political views than the largest part of the population from the right side of the Nistru, are also citizens of the country. “Politics is politics, but the businesses and private individuals who work for enterprises will now be able to develop relations not only with Russia, but also with other states,” he said.
