Needed sum of compensations for flood damage lower than initially assessed

The financial assistance promised to the families whose lands nearby houses have been inundated will reach the beneficiaries until this weekend. At Wednesday’s meeting of the Government, Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Anatolie Gorodenco said that 15.3 million lei was initially planned to be allocated from the account opened to collect funds for flood victims, but after finalizing the assessments in the 88 affected settlements, the sum was reduced by about 4 million lei, Info-Prim Neo reports. Instead, the number of beneficiaries has increased from 5,400 families to 5,880 families that are in need of assistance, Anatolie Gorodenco added. The size of an allocation for a family depends on the damage sustained and can reach 6,000 lei. The average compensation is 2,000 lei. According to the minister, the compensations were calculated according to the ratio 10,000 lei per one hectare of land, which is about twofold more than the value of the harvest per hectare obtained in the last 2-3 years, on the basis of the studies of the household budgets. The list of beneficiaries and the size of aid will be published on the Agriculture Ministry’s website.
