Nearly five thousand law enforcement officers will ensure public order on election day

Nearly five thousand employees of the General Police Inspectorate will be involved in ensuring and maintaining public order on election day. "3867 employees will be stationed at polling stations and electoral district councils", the deputy head of IGP General Public Safety Department, Veaceslav Balan, said at a press briefing.

Veaceslav Balan said that the IGP created permanent groups of criminal prosecution, 112 intervention  and traffic crews. "Over the course of these days, the General Inspectorate of Carabinieri will be involved in the support of the Police, which will ensure the public safety and which will be a reserve force in case of escalation", said General Public Safety Department deputy head.

According to Veaceslav Balan, it is forbidden to restrict under any pretext the right to vote, it is forbidden to photograph the ballots and to remove them from polling stations, it is forbidden to sell alcoholic beverages near polling stations and entering polling station armed or drunk. "Citizens are urged to signal to polling station chairpersons or to the police, if necessary, any violation in or around polling stations", said Veaceslav Balan.

Additionally, the deputy head warned that political campaigning is forbidden on election day and on the day before the election. "The police will promptly intervene and will not tolerate any violation. Those found guilty will be held accountable according to the law", said Veaceslav Balan.
