Governor Anca Dragu said that the National Bank of Moldova stands by the business community so as to know their needs and find solutions to these needs together. The statement was made at the EBA Business Outlook 2024 forum that brought together high-ranking officials, representatives of the financial system and the business community, IPN reports.

In her speech, Anca Dragu noted that the sustainable economic development and European integration are among the key priorities of Moldova. “The integration into the EU also advanced at the level of the National Bank of Moldova, which managed to conclude cooperation agreements with the European Central Bank and the European Banking Authority – two of the main EU authorities responsible for the financial system,” stated the NBM governor.

In this connection, Anca Dragu stressed that the banking reform facilitates the integration of the domestic banking system into the EU’s. According to her, a strong financial sector is one of the main factors for the sustainable development of the business environment. “And I want to assure you that the banking system in Moldova is stable, resilient, well capitalized and well governed... International and European investors, with a good reputation, strong governance and efficient risk management, entered the major banks of the Republic of Moldova, thus contributing to the recovery of banking activity and its aligning with EU rules,” said the governor.

She also referred to the need to improve access to finance for small and medium-sized enterprises, which have an increased potential to grow the economy, underlining the importance of developing financial infrastructure.

The governor highlighted that the NBM is making sustained efforts to improve regulation, supervision, corporate governance and risk management practice in the nonbanking financial sector. In this respect, both insurance companies and the nonbank lending market are encouraged to develop and provide high-quality services for the benefit of the citizens and businesses.

The event organized by the European Business Association (EBA Moldova) under the theme “Integration of the Republic of Moldova into the EU – Perspectives for Business” was at its third edition.
