The National Tennis Federation is preparing its own training base for tennis players. It will have six indoor tennis courts and at least 14 clay courts. The sports facility is planned to be opened this year, in autumn, the president of the National Tennis Federation of Moldova Ceslav Ciuhrii told a press conference at IPN.

“For us, the training of new players is as important. For the purpose, we are preparing our own sports base and we hope to open it this year. For us, this is as important. We experience the same emotions because we hope for a new beginning. I hope that after Radu (Albot) finishes his career, he will share his experience with the new players and we will thus manage to always have players at the top,” stated Ceslav Ciuhrii.

“We want to bring in the best coaches, first of all for juniors, but also to fill those gaps that we have. We have a lot of juniors who, when they reach a particular age, they lose quality in game and that’s what we must put right. If we don’t find them in our country, we will bring them from abroad and I hope we will have an exceptional infrastructure and we will manage in this way to also bring competitions and raise the level of play of our tennis players,” said the president of the National Tennis Federation.

Answering journalists’ questions, tennis player Radu Albot noted that he would like to compete in this year’s Olympic Games in Paris. “I think it will be an interesting experience. I just need to slightly improve my ranking because I’m now on the 130th spot. I don’t think this is enough. I consider reaching the Olympics is a dream for any athlete, especially because the Olympic Games were held in Brazil, Japan and now they are held in Europe, the closest to home, almost at home,” said the Moldovan athlete.

Qualification for the Olympic Games is based on rankings. A maximum of four players can qualify from each country. Players who are among the world’s top 100 athletes have better chances of qualifying.
