The most suitable place for building the National Stadium is a field in Stăuceni town, near the Chisinau Arena. This is what the pre-feasibility study carried out at the request of the Moldovan Football Federation shows. Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development Andrei Spînu stressed that the stadium will have all the necessary infrastructure for UEFA Category 4, which involves the highest standards for staging important international football competitions. The stadium will be equipped with a drainage and irrigation system to maintain optimal conditions of the playing surface. The Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development will initiate the procedure for conducting the feasibility study so as to provide final answers, IPN reports.

At a press conference, Minister Andrei Spînu said that discussions on the construction of the stadium began last autumn. At the request of the Moldovan Football Federation, a pre-feasibility study for the construction of the stadium was carried out. Out of five identified fields, the one in Stăuceni, near the Chisinau Arena, is considered the most suitable one.

The official noted that the stadium will be built according to the highest standards and will host national and international competitions. The stands will be comfortable, with excellent visibility and will include sections for families and areas for team supporters. The press stand will be equipped with all the necessary facilities. Separate locker rooms outfitted with all the necessary facilities for players and staff will be set up for national and foreign teams. The capacity of the stadium will be from 20,000 to 25,000 seats for spectators.

The Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development will initiate the feasibility study that will provide final answers. The maximum duration for its realization is one year. Based on the feasibility study, the Government will initiate the procedure for designing and building the stadium. The project costs were estimated at €85 million. The potential sources of financing will be both from the Government of the Republic of Moldova and from the private sector and foreign partners. Andrei Spînu noted that the National Stadium is not only an investment in football, but also an investment in economic growth, job creation, sports promotion, revitalization of the area and attraction of tourists to the Republic of Moldova. It is an ambitious plan for the next five years.

Moldovan Football Federation president Leonid Oleinichenko said that Moldovan football is in a process of continuous evolution and it is a trend that must be maintained. The recent achievements of the national clubs at European competitions show that increased attention is needed particularly to infrastructure. The modern football arena will open up new opportunities for staging large football events in Chisinau and will turn Moldova into a destination for football enthusiasts.

“Today, we are laying the foundation of a stadium that will be not only a sports arena, but also a symbol of our national unity. New success stories will be written here. New heroes will grow. Here we will learn together what it means to believe in yourself and in your team,” stated Minister of Education and Research Dan Perciun.
