The National Romanian Party of Moldova (PNR) threw today its support behind the National Liberal Party (PNL) and the European Action Movement (MAE), backing the two associates in their electoral endeavor. At the same time, PNL and MAE addressed PNR a public invitation to join them for talks on the formation of a single list for the upcoming elections. “We are backing the MAE and PNL in their insistent efforts to build an anticommunist pole, to conceive a force capable of elaborating not just an electoral but also a long-term, post-election strategy, which would right the wrongs of the Soviet and post-Soviet policies in Moldova”, acting PNR president Vasile Dobrogeanu told a joint news conference today. According to Dobrogeanu, “ the PNR shares the belief that the current regime in Moldova, which is, in essence, antinational and anti-Romanian, can be demounted only by forging a strong pro-European, anticommunist pole, which will be able to tear down this pro-Soviet, pro-Kremlin structure called the Communists Party and co.” MAE president Anatol Petrencu said that his party and the PNL have always pleaded for the establishment of a pro-European pole as an alternative to the current government. “We agreed to participate on a single list in the parliamentary elections. In addition, we negotiated with the Liberal Party, which suggested that we support their list in exchange for several posts, of ministers to start with, and maybe of deputy ministers too, in the next Government. This was, in fact, a proposition to step out. But we believe that the right path to follow is the participation of parties on a single list, under the banner of a single party”, said Anatol Petrencu. PNL Vitalia Pavlicenco president said the two parties also held talks with the Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM). “We consider those negotiations to have been suspended by the PLDM and we are waiting for the Liberal Democrats to resume the dialogue”, said Pavlicenco. MAE and PNL believe that “it is not too late for the political groups which share genuine pro-European values to sit at the negotiation table and elaborate a strategy for an united and firm victory”. “Against the Communists and their allies, who resort to excessively dirty methods in treating their political rivals in order to remain in power at any cost, collective opposition, rather than divided, would be more efficient”, a joint statement by PNL and MAE says. The participants in the conference grieved the death of the great poet Grigore Vieru. “In all our future actions we must not forget and should complete the sacred endeavor which Grigore Vieru pursued his entire life: be closer to Romania, be together with Romania to gain freedom”, said Vitalia Pavlicenco. PNR was founded by Gheorghe Ghimpu, the late brother of Liberal Party president Mihai Ghimpu. The party was registered with the Ministry of Justice in 1996 and its goal is to reunite the Romanian nation.
