The authorities assure the roads in the country, including in the capital city, are passable following last night’s snow. While employees of the State Road Administration say the situation on the national roads is satisfactory, the local authorities of Chisinau admit that traffic on the streets of the capital city is not smooth.

“After the snow that fell last night, the situation on the national roads is satisfactory. At night, hundreds of workers cleaned the snow from the streets of the country and spread over 2,000 tonnes of antiskid material. All the dangerous sections are monitored and works to remove snow or ice are performed where necessary,” the head of the State Road Administration’s Operative Service Sergiu Capatana has told IPN.

Contacted by IPN, the head of the Chisinau Public Transport and Communications Division Igor Gamretski said the vehicles move with difficulty on the streets of Chisinau. “Work was done at night. The roads were cleaned and antiskid material was spread. At about 7am this morning, traffic was slow near the Embassy of Ukraine, on Vasile Lupu St,” he stated.

The authorities call on the drivers to avoid the sloping streets such as Ganea, Timis, Postei, Vadul lui Voda, Paris, Causeni and the bystreet Uzinelor.

The Public Amenities Division’s head Petru Gontea has told IPN that half of the courtyards of apartment buildings in Chisinau have been cleaned. “There is yet a lot of work to be done. Some of the snow removal units started work at 4am, while others at 6am. Only about half of the planned works were executed,” he said.

The municipal services call on the motorists not to park by the roadside and at the entrance to courtyards so as not to bar the snowplows’ access.
