The National Philharmonic has caught fire, sending thick smoke in downtown Chisinau. Five fire engines have been deployed to the site.

As the Emergencies Inspectorate clarified, the fire started on the roof of an auxiliary building and firefighters are doing their best to prevent it from spreading. No injured or casualties have been reported.

National Philharmonic director Svetlana Bivol has told IPN that the fire was probably caused by sparks from a welding apparatus employed to fix a pipe in the annex. Bivol added that after the morning rehearsal, everybody left the building, except for a few staff, who were evacuated immediately, so no one was in danger.
