National Opera will celebrate 50th anniversary

National Opera and Ballet Theatre from Chisinau, founded in 1957, will celebrate its 50th anniversary the next year. The event will be marked via a series of festive actions, organized under the Government’s auspices.
In order to ensure a quality celebration of the jubilee, the Cabinet decided to institute a Steering Committee, and worked out an action plan.
The committee will have as members Mihail Platon, Culture, Education and Science counsellor of the President of Moldova; Eugenia Chistruga, deputy minister of Foreign Affaires and European Integration; Ion Chicu, deputy ministry of Finances; Ilie Telescu, chairman of the “Teleradio-Moldova” company; Svetlana Miron, head of department at the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Maria Biesu, head of the Musicians Union; Nicolae Dohotaru, first-conductor of the National Opera and Ballet Theatre.
The action plan includes the realization of two new settings and the organization of a homage show in October 2007. Also in the period from May to August, 4 jubilee performances will be presented in Soroca, Balti, Comrat and Cahul.
In August 2007 the works for a documentary film is to be finished, dedicated to the 50th anniversary since the foundation of the theatre. The film is produced by “Moldova Film”. Also a book will be published “National Opera and Ballet Theatre – 50 Years”.
