National Monitoring Council to administrate the financial assitance of USD 1.2 bln promised by foreign donors

The Government created a National Monitoring Council that has the duty to transparently and efficiently administrate the financial assistance of USD 1.23 bln promised to Moldova by the foreign donors in late 2006. The Council will include foreign experts, and representatives of the donor countries and bodies.
The announcement was made by the first deputy-prime-minister Zinaida Grecianyi at Presidency. The session was chaired by the head of state, attended by the speaker of the Parliament, PM, members of the Government, Presidential counsellors.
According to Zinaida Gercianyi, the total sum of the assistance includes the resources offered in the previously approved projects and those that will be used in the next period. The money will be used to continue the implementation of the regulatory reform, improvement of the public administration, development of the infrastructure, economic growth and poverty reduction.
President Voronin suggested including Valeriu Balaban in the composition of the National Monitoring Council, who was appointed as special missions and foreign assistance counsellor through presidential decree on January 16. According to the head of state, the experience Balaban gained as prosecutor general will be useful for monitoring the administration of the money and for avoiding corruption cases in the implementation process of the projects.
According to the head of state, revival of the transport networks and construction of new roadways, restoration and construction of social-cultural buildings, and permanent supply with water are the main fields to be paid close attention within the projects fianced by the foreign donors.
