Every year in February, Safer Internet Day is celebrated as a global event promoting responsible online behavior, especially among children and young people. Under the slogan "Together for a Safer Internet," this initiative emphasizes the importance of collaboration between institutions, experts, and communities to create a more secure digital space, IPN reports.
Speaking to IPN, Elena Pintilei, Director General of the National Library of the Republic of Moldova, highlighted the essential role libraries play in this effort. "Libraries are part of the global information community. Much of the information found in libraries is also available online, but often in a chaotic manner," noted Elena Pintilei.
According to the director, building digital libraries contributes to a safer internet and ensures genuine access to reliable information. Through educational initiatives and the development of digital resources, libraries in Moldova play a key role in promoting a secure and accessible internet for everyone.
In the Republic of Moldova, the National Library and the Pro-European Center for Services and Communication are joining this campaign by organizing educational sessions on digital safety. This year's event, held on February 11, is especially significant as it takes place within the framework of the European Year of Education for Digital Citizenship, launched by the Council of Europe.
