The National Library of the Republic of Moldova staged a book exhibition entitled “Heritage and Education: Learning for Life” as a last event of the 2020 edition of the European Heritage Days. The title was inspired by this year’s edition of the European Heritage Days – a joint initiative of the Council of Europe and the European Union, IPN reports.
National Library director general Elena Pintilei said the exhibition presents only a part of the documentary heritage kept in the library. It focuses on the policies of the EU and the Council of Europe and promotes the national and European heritage, good practices of the signatories of the Cultural Convention and international practices for the promotion and protection of the national heritage in the context of heritage education. “We must discover together our heritage through education. Lifelong learning is one of the European cultural and education policies,” stated Elena Pintilei.
Gheorghe Leucă, secretary of state at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, approved of the active promotion by the National Library of the European spirit and values and of the integration of Moldova’s culture into the mosaic of the European culture. “We cannot protect or truly understand the value and importance of the cultural heritage for a society without having high-quality education in an open and accessible environment. In this regard, the Council of Europe is an important partner of the Republic of Moldova, especially by the implemented projects centering on education for democracy and human rights,” he noted.
Giuseppe Paglione, education and culture projects manager at the EU Delegation to Moldova, said the European Heritage Days invite to union around those ties between heritage and education and to prove the potential of the heritage as an instrument of learning and education as a foundation stone for the cultural industry. “The objective of the European Heritage Days this year is to offer a stimulus for debates on the ties between knowledge, traditions, innovations and abilities and to this way review how we imagine education and what this means for the socioeconomic development in the 21st century. The exploitation of the cultural heritage has been traditionally one of the driving forces of the cooperation between the EU and the Republic of Moldova, a series of projects, initiatives being implemented in time in different areas,” stated Giuseppe Paglione.
The exhibition consists of documents and publications on the European cultural policies of the Council of Europe and the European Union, as the main European institutions, and presents examples of good practices, programs and sources of information in the field of the cultural heritage. It can be visited until December 10 on the first floor of the central block of the National Library.
