The National Library of the Republic of Moldova launched the Library Nocturnal Campaign 2020. The first part of the launch was held in the open air in the evening of September 25, while the second part will take place in the Library’s square in the afternoon of September 26, IPN reports.

In the event, National Library director general Elena Pintilei said the title of the campaign, “Resisting Info-Demia ”, is typical of 2020. “We, the librarians, are those friends of books who help the users choose verified information. The librarians should be able to help the user of information to consume only true, filtered-out information,” stated Elena Pintilei.

IREX Europe coordinator Daniela Galai said the members of the program she represents have worked in media education with libraries and librarians of the Republic of Moldova since 2015. “We organized training seminars for librarians, offering them instruments, techniques, knowledge in the field of media education. All these helped them develop critical thinking, better differentiate between fake and true, authenticity and untruth. Moreover, they didn’t keep this information for them only. They made effort to disseminate it, relate it and share it with the other members of the community, telling them how important it is to think critically when there is a multitude of information that besieges us from everywhere,” stated Daniela Galai.

The event included the launch of Nicoleta Negrescu’s autobiographical novel “Through Clouds of Milk and Venom”. The publication was supported by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research, which helped print the first 300 copies.

According to the organizers, the current edition of the Library Nocturnal Campaign is designed to shed light on the phenomenon of excess of information and the means of protection against the noxious effects of info-dermia and to place the libraries at the forefront as safe informing institutions.

The campaign is organized in partnership with IREX Europe in Moldova and is supported by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research of the Republic of Moldova.
