Participants in the Fourth National Congress of Romanian Historians, taking place during August 27-31 in Chisinau and Suceava, adopted a Declaration endorsing Moldova’s effort to join the European Union. The Congress urges Moldovans to vote in the October 20 referendum and support “the integration of the Republic of Moldova into the united family of European nations”.
“We denounce the practices of falsification and distortion of history as a means of justifying Russia’s aggressive war against the Ukrainian people and state. History teaches us that any surrender is only an invitation for new aggressions, which could go beyond Ukraine to other states, including the Republic of Moldova. Therefore, it is our common duty to help the victims in fighting the aggression”, the declaration reads.
“The National Congress of Romanian Historians supports the European journey of the Republic of Moldova and urges citizens to participate in the republican constitutional referendum on October 20 and support the integration of the Republic of Moldova into the united family of European nations”.
“The historical experience of Romania is particularly relevant for the stakes of the choice that the citizens of the Republic of Moldova have to make. For Romania, joining the European Union was a historic chance for economic and social progress and ensuring protection against any external threats. For the citizens of the Republic of Moldova, the confirmation of support for the accession to the European Union represents a firm option for economic and social progress, for well-being, for European values and the strengthening of its own security”, the Congress also said in the adopted declaration.
