The winners of the 2015 National Awards received their prizes on Wednesday and said that this will motivate them to work even harder. Each of the 10 recipients, either individuals or groups, received 100,000 lei, IPN reports.
Speaker Andrian Candu expressed his appreciation for the titanic task undertaken by scientists and artists alike. “Unconditioned dedication means a lot and we are proud of such personalities who represent us”, said the official. According to him, these are the people that improve the country's image. “I look at this list and I see the names of people who have impressed me so often”, stressed Candu.
Prime Minister Valeriu Strelet explained that we are on the eve of a holiday about which every citizen should speak with pride and emotions because August 27 is the day when the fight for freedom and independence finally succeeded. 24 years ago, Moldova was able to step out into the big world with a massive hunger for freedom. Today, said the PM, we must break the chain of a different kind of captivity, caused by the inefficiency of state institutions, corruption and so on. He promised that the Cabinet of Ministers will dedicate all its efforts to the prosperity of the people.
Valentina Dogotari (Nafornita), one of the recipients, thanked her co-nationals for their support, without which she wouldn't have made it so far.
Valentina Stratat, who received the award alongside several colleagues for a scientific treaty on the hereditary theory of lung cancer, said that the award is a further boost for developing new methods for cancer prevention and screening. She feels that genetic research must become a priority over the next years.
Another winner, Emilian Galaicu-Paun, poet, editor, translator, essayist and literary critic, thanked his parents, who raised him in the middle of books. He recited a piece of poetry in the memory of his mother, whose absence he feels especially during such events.
The list of the National Award recipients was approved by the government on August 19.
