The latest news in the field of cerebrovascular diseases is to be presented by reputable specialists from abroad, but also from the Republic of Moldova, during a conference to be held in Chisinau between September 16-18, IPN reports.

The event is organized by the Stroke Association of Moldova. According to a press release, stroke is the second leading cause of death and the leading cause of lifelong disability worldwide. There are effective methods for treating stroke. However, the implementation of these methods is very limited and therefore constitutes the most difficult problem in the current management of stroke. In many countries and in many hospitals, patients do not receive effective treatment due to the lack of implementation framework.

The interdisciplinary consortium aims to understand the contextual factors, to develop the implementation framework and to test its effectiveness. These actions can save tens of thousands of lives, eliminate hundreds of thousands of disabilities and save millions in healthcare costs.

The first Summit of IRENE - COST Project (Implementation Research Network in Stroke Quality), to be attended by representatives from over 30 European countries, will take place in parallel with the National Conference on cerebrovascular diseases, in Chisinau, on September 16 and 17. The main activity of IRENE COST action is to improve public health by creating networks that facilitate the understanding of contextual factors, as regards the differences between countries concerning the values of innovation and the climate of implementation.

“We are talking about stroke, which is the second leading cause of death in the Republic of Moldova after cardiovascular disease and which annually takes the lives of thousands of young people who are fit for work. It is estimated that stroke will become, by 2030, the leading cause of worldwide mortality, reaching approximately eight million deaths annually. This situation is explained by deficient prophylaxis, unhealthy lifestyle, but also by the fact that people are not well informed and many diseases that favour the stroke remain undiscovered and untreated for years”, says the press release.

New methods of Stroke endovascular treatment require a speedy implementation in Moldova, while the establishment of a national Stroke Control program is vital. Organizers of the event hope that this conference will provide an impetus for improving therapeutic and surgical strategies in the treatment and prophylaxis of Stroke in the Republic of Moldova.

The National Conference on cerebrovascular diseases will be held at the Radisson Blu Hotel between 09.00 and 16.00.
