Independent candidate for President Natalia Morari expresses her concern about the fairness of the presidential election and accuses the government of systematically rigging the electoral process. “What we see now is not only lack of respect for democracy, but also a concerted action of usurpation of power,” Natalia Morari stated in a news briefing hosted by IPN.

“I declare with all responsibility that Maia Sandu steals our election. All the ministries and institutions of the Government and the Parliament majority participate in the 2024 electoral process. The electoral process involves the SIS, the NAC, the Police, the Central Election Commission, the National Bank of Moldova, the Audiovisual Council and practically all media institutions in the Republic of Moldova, with very few exceptions,” said Natalia Morari.

According to her, Maia Sandu annulled the presumption of innocence and considers all the people who support her opponents guilty. The candidate also said that she and her team are spied on by the SIS. “At the request of the SIS, the police phone and summon people who cooperate with the team, give them absurd questions and treat them as people who broke the law so that they start to be afraid to get involved in the election campaign,” noted the candidate.

She also said that “Maia Sandu aims to win the elections through intimidation and fear and the people in uniforms, who are paid with public money to protect us from her abuses too, actually contribute to limiting our rights.”

According to Natalia Morari, the army of so-called media outlets that serve Maia Sandu’s interests is another election fraud tool. The candidate stressed that they forgot about their mission to inform the citizens about the abuses of the rules and the cases when these violate legal and moral norms.

In a message addressed to Moldova’s development partners, Natalia Morari asked them to support democracy, but not the abuses of the current government.

“Be the partners of the people of the Republic of Moldova, not of Maia Sandu. We are not blind and we see everything. We believe that the European Union acts with more fairness and integrity than Maia Sandu. The election will pass and Maia Sandu will become just a stage in our sad history – the important thing is what impression we each  have after this period full of challenges,” concluded Natalia Morari.
