Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilița says the government is looking for ways to mitigate the consequences of the war in Ukraine on the Moldovan economy, including halted imports and the impossibility for goods to transit the beleaguered country.

To reorient imports, a number of decisions were taken, such as the automatic certification of goods coming from the European Union, Gavrilița told a press conference.

Steps were also taken to facilitate trade through the Romanian port of Constanța. The Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development discussed with external partners the acceptance of container standards in order to facilitate the flow from the European Union.

“This reorientation depends on the ability of companies to import. There are companies that are large international networks with the ability to reorient faster. And it will take some time for the other companies to reorient themselves,” said Natalia Gavrilița.

With exports of raw materials to Ukraine and Russia halted, the government is looking for long-term solutions, said Gavrilița. She added that a week is not enough to make forecasts on the sectors that will be hit the worst.
