Natalia Gavrilița reacted to the criticism leveled by the opposition, which accused her of hiding the two-story house situated in central Chisinau. The Premier said the house was not included in her property statement because it belongs to her parents and the legislation does not envision the declaring of property that does not belong to her, IPN reports.

“I want it to be clear – I live at my parents’ place. My house is not registered in the name of my parents. I live in their house. My parents built this house 20 years ago. When we returned from London, it was important for me for my son to live near his grandparents. Furthermore, it is very hard to have a job like mine and to raise a child without the parents’ support,” Natalia Gavrilița stated in the program “Friday with Anatolie Golea” on RTR Moldova channel.

Yesterday, Parliament gave a first reading to a bill to amend the law on the National Integrity Authority and the law on the declaring of property and personal interests. If the bill is adopted in the second reading, the property and personal interests of the husband/wife, parents/parents-in-law and children of the person subject to control will also be checked. Gavrilița said the law for now does not oblige her to declare the parents’ house.

“I haven’t yet submitted a property statement as Prime Minister. Given this scandal, I will definitely indicate the parents’ house in the statement. The legislation does not stipulate something like this and I therefore didn’t think it is so important,” stated Natalia Gavrilița.

The Premier’s property statement shows the Gavrilița family owns an apartment that is 52 square meters in area and was bought in 1997 and a Lexus car and a Subaru car both made in 2009.
