The vice director of the National Administration of Penitentiaries (NAP) will be remanded in custody for 30 days, not 15 as the Chisinau City Court decided earlier. The decision of the ordinary court was challenged by prosecutors in the Chisinau Appeals Court, which accepted the request.

Contacted by IPN for details, spokesman for the Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime and Special Cases Emil Gaitur said the appeals court also examined the appeal of lawyers, who asked to quash the ordinary court’s judgment. This appeal was rejected.

The vice director of the National Administration of Penitentiaries was arrested on February 15 in a case that features 12 persons who are suspected of committing credit card frauds. He faces three to eight years in jail and ban on holding particular posts or performing particular activities for a period of 10 to 15 years.
