The National Anticorruption Center (NAC) published audio recordings related to the case of electoral corruption and illegal financing of political parties, following searches conducted in Balti. In a dialogue, several people discuss the amounts of money and also Shor’s candidate for whom they would vote, IPN reports.
In the dialogue intercepted by the law enforcement officers, one person explains to another the need to go “to the office” with an identity document. The personal data are collected to draw up lists based on which by 2,000 lei will be paid to each person. It is also noted that the money is in Russia and that it is difficult to transfer it to the Republic of Moldova.
An interlocutor asks who to vote for as Ilan Shor is not contending in the race. The other person replies that instructions will be given at the last minute.
Law enforcement officers on Tuesday carried out searches at the Balti office of a political party and the homes of individuals affiliated to the party. The NAC said that the persons are suspected of corrupting voters for the October 20 referendum and election. Voters’ personal data were sent to third parties and financial institutions outside the Republic of Moldova in order to obtain illicit remuneration for exercising the right to vote.
