A Chisinau man, 27, faces a life sentence for first-degree murder after killing a 35-year-old woman in a Ciocana apartment four weeks ago, IPN reports.
According to a press release of the Chisinau Police, the suspect was arrested on August 21. The investigation found that he hit the victim with a hammer and a knife while she was sleeping. For four days, he stayed in the apartment with the body and then tried to abscond.
The man confessed to the police and provided a detailed account of the murder. He is in police custody and will undergo psychological assessment. The police didn't provide any details as to the relationship between murder and victim and how the woman ended up in the apartment where she was killed.
If the man is found sane, he risks 15 to 20 years in prison or even a life sentence for premeditated murder committed with extreme cruelty.
