A mural that is about 700 m2 in area, centering on solidarity in fighting violence against women, was made on the wall of Trolleybus Company No.1 situated on Columna St in Buiucani district of Chisinau. The painting forms part of a project implemented as part of the campaign “16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence”, on the initiative of UN Women Moldova with financial support from the Government of Sweden, IPN reports.

Sweden’s Ambassador to Moldova Anna Lyberg said that a similar painting was made in Cahul. “We saw that a creative thought can transmit a message rather well. Art expresses emotions and it expresses them in a visual way and we see this now in Chisinau too,” stated the diplomat. Anna Lyberg also said that the legislation is important, but the social aspects, and not only of the problem of violence, should not be overlooked. Each day, the doctors, the police, law specialists do everything possible to fight the phenomenon of violence. But society, the people can also pronounce.

UN Women Moldova Country Representative Dominika Stojanoska said the wall will be lit so that the painted message could be seen at night too. “We use visual arts to transmit messages,” stated Dominika Stojanoska, noting that the message of the mural is that concerted work is needed to ensure equality, by distributing responsibilities. This way the people will have a better future, with much more equality.

The mural painting was made by the team “Urban Spirit Family” that is led by iZZY iZVNE artist Inna Jeleascovaka, together with White Tigers Crew from the Transnistrian region.
