Municipality has enormous debts to contractors

The debts due by the municipality to the contractors that have performed public works in the last few years amount to nearly MDL 46.27 mln. Of them, almost MDL 36.2 mln are planned to be paid off by the municipality with money from the State Budget. According to a decision taken on Thursday, May 3, by the Chisinau Municipal Council on the approval of the list of accounts payable for the public works included in the capital investments plan, the largest debts resulted from expenditures for communal constructions – MDL 25.2 mln; dwelling constructions – MDL 3.2 mln; MDL 1.3 mln for gasification; MDL 824,000 for education, 15.3 mln for the cultural sector and about 158,000 for health. In particular, MDL 947,000 are due for the reconstruction works of the facade of the apartment houses situated alongside the main streets of the city; engineering improvements at the Russian Federation Embassy – MDL 880,000; MDL 1 mln for designing and building the Northern Station; MDL 15.1 mln for the Pan Halippa Street reconstruction; about MDL 2.5 mln for the adjacent zone of the River Golbaciha, etc. The government has decided recently on allotting to the Chisinau City Hall almost MDL 40 mln in order to finance capital investments carried out in Chisinau in 2006. According to a governmental decision from April 17, almost MDL 11.5 mln are to be directed in order to pay off the debts resulted from the building of the “Eternitate” (“Eternity”) Memorial Complex; MDL 15.1 mln for reconstruction of the Pan Halippa Str.; MDL 4.8 mln in order to launch the trolley bus line from the Centru District to Petricani; MDL 3.1 mln allotted for the reconstruction of the “Stefan cel Mare” Public Garden fountains; almost MDL 1.04 mln for the Northern Station and about MDL 905,000 allotted for the shelter to be build in Ciocana District. In order to pay off the debts resulted from the reconstruction of the “Nasterea Domnului” (“Birth of Lord”) Cathedral there will be directed MDL 548,000 allotted to prevent floods of the adjacent zone of the River Golbaciha.
